Love and Wine

Standard

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt was to write about love and wine. More specifically, it was to write a poem in the style of Anacreon. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the meter requirements for an Anacreontic are not entirely clear to me, so I opted to write about love and wine but ignore the meter. I wouldn’t quite describe it as a “high-falutin’ drinking song” but it’s something. Enjoy!

Opening credits and grand finale
Love’s first blooming and its dark valley

Clinking glasses and drowned tears
Milestones celebrated and realized fears

Honeymoon places and secrets troubling
Forever promises and conscious uncoupling

All hopelessly steeped in fermented fruit
A help or hinder, it seems is moot
